Paul Chappory - Tenor Biography

Since his 1996 professional debut in La Traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor Paul Chappory has gone on to perform leading tenor roles throughout New Zealand and in Great Britain where he is now based.
Principal roles have included; Fenton in Falstaff and The Simpleton in Boris Godunov for New Zealand Opera, Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro for London Opera Players, The Rector in Peter Grimes for Surrey Opera, Parpignol in La Boheme for Opera New Zealand, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte with Hamilton Opera, Tamino in The Magic Flute for the Opera Factory in Auckland, Alfred in Die Fledermaus with Wanganui Opera, Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor for Opera Napier and the title role in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra.
Paul Chappory has appeared in concert with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Jack Body’s Solitary Poems of Delight, and as guest soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia in the 2003 Puccini Gala Concert and both Symphony and Christmas in the Park. Mr Chappory has also appeared in concert with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, the Christchurch Symphony, the Wellington Sinfonia, the South Pacific Symphony, and the Washington Lee Orchestra in the USA. Oratorio engagements have included soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, the Bach Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem.
Mr Chappory is a graduate in vocal performance from the EIT at Hawke’s Bay, where his teacher was Patrick Power and has studied extensively in the USA and New Zealand with Madame Virginia Zeani both in Bloomington and at the New Zealand Opera Training School. He was also a graduate of the Opera New Zealand Emerging Artist programme.
